Money bottom line, (insert any F&G agency). Gotta keep biologist and such employed with funding. Having said that WY. is pretty good at juggling that fine line. Populations are pretty low right now out there based on the past in many areas.
Intook mine with a 7mm mag.
I took mine with a 7mag. Just stay behind the shoulders. Use a bullet that will stay together so it dose not blow up and destroy everything your food.
I go out to Wyoming for venison. Lots of doe White tails and doe antelope and tags are cheap. Its the meat im after not the trophy. Im the exception most guys are out hunting for antler bragging and who knows where the venison ends up
(Sort of in order)
ID mountain goat (daughter's tag)
ID archery gen deer (semi-serious...have a few interesting bucks hanging around near me that I'll try for if they hang around)
UT rifle cow elk (burned points due to price increase)
ID deer (twin daughters and wife)
UT rifle gen deer with...
I agree. We figured out the antelope doe game toward the end of the good years. My hunting buddy and I were like dang for basically $80 we can shoot 2 does or give $300 for a buck. Ya I’ll come out and hunt does every year. My last 2 trips to Wyoming have been for does and cow elk. I’m just fine...
School Pot-lucks. Not sure if was legal, but wife used to always get asked to provide that tasty taco meat for school cinco de mayo celebrations for each of our three kids classes (2 classes per grade). Learned over the years to move from elk to MD to speed goats. The kids loved it all the same...
That is a VERY fair point. Given new "archery" equipment I can see that viewpoint. I hunt with a 15 year old compound or a recurve I built myself. My view is sitting on a water through for 5 days in wait might be behind the tech. If I twitch, draw, or smell at all those antelope wander off from...
Two more rabbit outings, and no shots fired. Plenty of animals, but cover too thick or just no clear shot.
Since I have just a partial day here and there to hunt deer, I’ve been patiently waiting to play my cards. Skipped warm days, and skipped wind/ice storm on Sun/Mon. Scouted for 1 hr after...
For some, hunting vintage is an evolutionary process. It starts as a '''back up'' then maybe a doe rifle or a one-day-a-year rifle. For me, I kinda started there, but not everyone does.
But truly hunting vintage means leaving the modern stuff at home, even (and most especially) when trying...
How many animals have you shot with a ELD-X or SST? I've shot 3 with a ELD-X (granted not a large survey pool) and either personally killed or been right there when 50+ animals have died by a SST (4 alone last year). If you'd line up every animal I'd easily pick out the three killed with the...
….and a big doe antelope dropped like a stone.
I do not know what was worse. Being in the fast cold water, or being so wet in a fast cold wind.
Normally I would be gutting her out fast and out of Grizzly country quickly. Dragging her back to the easy crossing I had used and into my truck...
Good People. Poor People, Eating a lot of Antelope.
The above story about the Old Cowboy feeding his family with his rifle became quite familiar to me when I lived in Wyoming.
I once picked up a young cowboy hitchhiking on a below zero winter day. As was typical he had a canvas duffle bag over...
nothing personal intended here but I feel the FWP has ruined public land hunting in Montana and we need to quit shooting doe and fawn antelope. The populations just don't support the quotas and the issuance of doe fawn tags is kind of in your face saying if you want to play you will pay.
So much...
