not a bear, but a charging moose with my .44
Killed 2 blackies at close range with my SKS... the black bears here don't get very big, but every one I've shot or known anyone else shoot.. they give up the fight pretty easy once they have been hit....
It blows pretty good here. The wind comes through the notch in my little mountains pretty hard... in excess of 80 mph.... I have (had), a large grove of mature cottonwoods on the north end of my property.. these tree's are up to 5 ft in diameter at the butt.... in a span of about 4 hours I lost...
nothing I do seems to be simple.... I agree about doing a good recon of any area's.. I tell people the same thing about moving to AK... there are a lot of area's that are best avoided (lower caswell sub division for one).. there are roads you just don't want to go down..
I'm putting this place...
been through both parts of michigan many times, and spent several summers there.... I'm not a big fan of their gov't..... I'm not sure some of my accoutrements would be welcome?... ;)....
It's beautiful up there fer sure... But I want more open country....
cost of living counts for.. pretty much all of it honestly... living on a somewhat fixed income. I do take things for granted here, that I'll have to deal with down yonder...
My place here, is paid for.... I don't have to worry about how to heat the cabin, or my water... I just go out and cut...
I don't mind traveling a bit to get to hunting or fishing... it has to be easier (and cheaper) than where I am.... Fortunately, here I've been able to hunt moose and bear right on the property (tho bulls can be scarce during season). Plus there are thousands of acres that are nearly empty... as...
I'm a poor old fart who's been living in a little cabin/homestead, I built in the talkeetna mtns of Alaska. I've been here just shy of 20 years and I'm in my mid 60's now...
I haven't done everything I want to do here in AK, but there is time for that before I leave. I'm looking to relocate to...
I've never seen rougher ground to travel than Alaska.... (maybe central america). I haven't seen it all.. but it can be pretty brutal.... tundra or not.... rule of thumb..
If you have barn boots you'll need hip waders... If you have hip Waders you'll need chest waders.....
the term "two steps...
I have been wearing wool for decades.... here in Alaska hunting season is usually to early for super warm clothing, but when I'm traveling (snowmobiling into town for supplies).. I'm wearing wool....
I have several sets of gallatin range wool stuff... I bought a bunch on sale at cabela's back in...
I think this applies to a lot of states.... my birth state is gone..... little (lost) lakes with great fishing are surrounded by "starter castles".... and I could go on....
I'm looking to SD because I really enjoyed traveling through.... don't worry about my big bucks changing anything... I'll...
They are much like the Anaconda, but with the interchangeable barrel system.. they are large but have a really great grip system... I've got a number of old, old colts.. but none of the newer stuff.... so far....
I'm somewhere between hiking 1400 yards and shooting them when they break into the outhouse..... (both are a pain)..;)...
but thats just my old bones and my dislike of repairing my outhouse speaking...
I try and avoid those kind of encounters...... been livin with bears for 20 years..... in a few weeks it will be back to the "go the outhouse armed", season....
I own a bunch of Rugers, but I'm an old colt pony guy so I gave my nod to the Anaconda.... but I'd have liked to see the Dan Wesson 44 listed by name....
killed a moose and lots of pocky's with my SBH.. (hey.. you use what ya got)....
