    Antler Point Restrictions

I don't like APRs and would only support them for a short duration after a die-off. I hunted on a 4+ points unit for deer not too long ago. I had a pair of bucks at 200 yards - a very small 4 point and an old and large 2 point. I'd have been very happy with the old 2 point, but couldn't legally...

2026 Colo Sheep/goat draw results and mentoring of new tag holders!

That's about as good as it gets. Post up a few pictures for all the suckers on here who can't even draw once!

    WY preference point increase

I think it might have an effect on deer applications. Personally, they just lost me on deer. I will use my points in the next year or two and won't be buying any more. They don't offer enough quality or opportunity to make it worthwhile considering the opportunities I can get in other states...

The funniest part of all this angst is that we're still five days early.

I'm still waiting for someone to post up the "how long is your ****" poll. I guarantee the Hunt Talk crowd will be 10 inches at least...

    Wyoming proposed regs

The moose, sheep and goat proposed regulations no longer indicate the resident/non-resident split. Any idea how I'm supposed to determine that? Will they publish that info later?

    Idaho NR General Tag Draw

I'll answer my own question. I logged in and learned that I did draw elk. I guess the elk email will come later. Looks like I'll have elk and deer tags in my pocket for the same area. Can't complain about that!

    Idaho NR General Tag Draw

Do results for deer come in a separate email than results for elk? I got an email about the "general draw" that mentioned a successful deer draw but nothing at all about elk.

2025: Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

The stalk was simple and uneventful. We crept over the hilltop and the herd came into view. The two bucks in the herd were standing up. The does were bedded. "270 yards," Dad informed me. I can work with that. The smaller of the two bucks was standing perfectly broadside. The larger buck was...

2025: Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

These creatures baffle me sometimes. As a general rule, the pronghorn were in large groups and were very skittish at this point in the season. Then, for whatever reason, I ran into a herd that didn't seem to care about my presence at all. Why? I don't know. I sized them up through the...

2025: Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

I spent the next day doing very little besides resting. I needed it. I reflected on how my mood and outlook had changed over the course of the past month or two. I was definitely in a better mental state, and I had to credit my hunting trips for much of that. The exercise, the fresh air and...

2025: Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

During one of my conversation earlier in the morning, I talked to a tag holder and his friend. I determined pretty quickly that I wanted to be like them when I grew up. They had been hunting buddies longer than I'd been alive. The tag holder had previously completed a grand slam, including two...

2025: Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

The ensuing photo/video session was quite difficult. Being solo and up in cliffy terrain didn't help. I didn't produce any award-winning photos, but I captured the memory. I never take selfies, and my lack of practice was evident in my attempt. This was about as well as I did. At least I didn't...

2025: Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

I knew I'd rushed the shot. Admittedly, it didn't feel great. Nonetheless, I heard the unmistakable sound of a hit and my target animal dropped like a bag of rocks. I breathed a big sigh of relief before starting to wonder whether I'd hit her in the spine. I attempted to find her in the...

2025: Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired

The approach went more-or-less as planned. As I neared a place that would offer me a shot, a problem became apparent: I wasn't sure if I had a safe route to retrieve a sheep after the shot. I had a great view of everything to the right of the sheep, but it was pretty clear I wouldn't have a...
