Good to hear. Tag numbers have been too high in those places if they really want them to be trophy quality units. Don’t know much about the oryx, but I would hope they are basing objectives off of whatever their biologists think is best

You say this jokingly, but a couple years ago I went 3/4 green on elk, deer and oryx. It was a serious problem, my boss wasn’t stoked

Middle of next week. You will have plenty of time for logistics

    Wyoming Elk

To add additional context, the general tag has been creeping at an average of 0.5 points per year. Meaning it should take 6 points to guarantee the tag this year, with about 40-60% odds at 5.5 points

    Wyoming Elk

This is not true. 5.5 points guaranteed the tag in the regular last year

    Wyoming Elk

I can’t complain, I have hunted a number of good tags the past 5 years. It’s all about planning, patience, and a little sprinkle of luck. Hope you get lucky in the draw.

    Wyoming Elk

Oh I play the game. I’m one of the idiots who got on the train right as Randy started getting popular. I’m in point purgatory in at least 7 states

    Wyoming Elk

Not my first time applying, but if my party doesn’t draw the W general with an average of 6.75 I may actually quit

    Arizona 2nd choice

If point creep ends up putting you below 100% odds for the tag you “should” be able to draw, then you will want to have that crazy moonshot choice in your first choice slot for the second pass. Basically, it doesn’t hurt you at all to put a dream tag in choice 1 and the tag you “should” draw in...

My First Muley, 2 Firsts in One

Not necessarily true. A cactus buck is “any buck with over 50% of its antlers covered in velvet during season” which is well after the normal velvet shedding timeframe. It usually indicates some sort of testosterone production issue with the deer. If this buck was killed in October then it fits...

The official 2025 Wyoming elk hunt for Dave N thread.

I would be all over this if I were still stationed in Utah. I hope you guys have an awesome experience, it’s been fun following along!

Mule Deer Buck of a Lifetime

    182” gross Wyoming 0 point tag 186” with a 31” outside spread

    HB 514 signed

It would be a sweet combo for buck maturity: all the tags would still sell, and the people willing to buy them are likely to shoot the first forkie they see

    Montana 2024 Ram

Congratulations Buzz, sounds like you worked hard at it and came away with a dandy ram.

Back to New Mexico - Archery elk this time

Leaving for NM archery elk in 3 days, this has me jacked up! Congrats on getting a bull with your bow, that’s a cool accomplishment!

    What does this buck score?

Well, gotta admit when you are wrong. Those are much better pictures and if that’s the same deer I wasn’t even close originally. Mid to high 160s
