I’m curious what gear ratio it had? My pickup has 4.30, and I’ve used and liked a few 4.10 Chevy 2500s. Makes a big difference. If I had to replace mine that’s one thing I wouldn’t want to compromise on. Lots of the newer half tons are geared way too high.
I fished midges today too, but there’s a few spots that I just can’t resist swinging a spoon through… Did see some March browns coming off, next time I’m bringing the 3wt and dries.
Safety engagement was often sticky in the cold, and the entire trigger seized up and wouldn’t function once until I hit it with some penetrating oil and let it sit for a few days. That may have been a windy Wyoming dust/dirt issue as much as the cold.
My Winchester .270 has a Timney that I really like, and I love the Sako/Tikka trigger as well. All set to approximately 2.5 pounds. Both have been very reliable in the cold and snow. I used to have a Triggertech on a 700 that felt great but was a little finicky in bad conditions.
Winchester 1892 short rifle in .44 Rem Mag. Surprisingly accurate with irons at 100 yards and feeds 240 hard casts like butter. It’s going to see some whitetail and bear action.
Find a used 2nd/2.5 gen basic SR5 with the 5.7 V8 and 4.30 gears for simplicity and reliability. My dad’s new twin turbos makes a lot of power, but I’d take my older 5.7 every time.
That Ranger will sure cut through the waves on the big water in style. I always thought I’d get a Lund with a Yamaha if I found myself in the boat buying tax bracket.
New Raptor to pull it with in the future?
I might have to find some write in the rain paper and do that. I don’t trust the e tags and I’ve just been half ass laminating printer paper tags for the last few years.
Things started going to hell when we stopped printing tags on the green/yellow waterproof paper. Love the feeling of a fresh sportsman with bear combo in my pocket.
In that case I’d likely go with the new Ruger Americans. A little rough around the edges, but great shooting rifles. Suppressed 7-08 would be a killer and easy on the shoulder.
I just got off work and I’m putting a new skid plate on my pickup and changing the diff gear oil. Probably go catch some spring run rainbows later this week.
