I killed my first deer with my dad’s 1907 vintage 99B in .30/30 over 50 years ago. It was stolen a couple of years later in a burglary. I found it sitting in a pawn shop the following year and dad got it back. It’s sitting in my safe right now and will go to my grandson. The 99 was the only gun...
In my humble opinion, the Springfield begs to be a .35 Whelen, the only other option for me would be a .308 Norma Magnum. Both were very common conversions back when the surplus actions were commonly used for custom rifles.
The 98 I would consider the 7x57, .257 Roberts, the .300 Savage or...
I’m afraid I don’t have much information for you but the Wyoming game and fish website has a “plan your hunt” feature and from there you can find pretty much everything you need to know. Drawing odds and access information are all there. I will say that if I were adamant about taking my son...
It’s pretty big in East Africa too, when I hunted Tanzania we were far from the nearest village so the camp staff got all the meat that wasn’t eaten by the hunters. There was biltong hanging all over camp. I liked it pretty well and have thought about making some myself. After it was dried to...
An old buck I killed several years ago, I shot him in the center of the chest as he faced me about 60 yards away, he ran about 30 yards over the hill and this is exactly how I found him. He took his final breath as I walked up.
I would have it thoroughly checked out by a dealer first. Especially if you don’t have the maintenance records and double that if you don’t know the previous owner(s). I drove my 2013 F150 with 110,000 miles to Idaho for a spring bear hunt and ended up borrowing a jeep and leaving my truck at...
Personally, I would not even think about TSS in a 42. There are too many Mossbergs out there. I have only used it in a couple of 870s a 12 and a 20. For the price, I can get by with lead. If you have to shoot non toxic shot I would recommend bismuth, it will not hurt your barrel.
We’re completely redoing our garden this year, pulled all the raised beds out last fall and tilled the soil into the compost bed. We will redo the raised beds, and add a few more. We are also adding a 10x12 greenhouse. Tomatoes, peppers, onions, carrots, radishes and green beans. Potatoes will...
The year before the Hunting GPS maps (now Onxhunt) came out I drew a unit that took 7+ points last year, as a third choice non resident. Now you don’t need to be able to read a map or use a compass. The average garden variety nimrod can stay pretty close to public land just by looking at his phone.
Nice job! That’s a good looking knife. I was just looking at belt grinders last night. I’m a rank amateur when it comes to knife making but for an inexpensive steel that’s pretty easy to heat treat at home, I like O1. For my occasional knife making projects, I’ve come to like the Nordic style...
