NM - D, E, A, Oryx and Javelina already bagged and tagged.
WY - Draw for cow elk and doe antelope
I hope I get an elk tag in WY and NM but odds are against me. I may only have enough vacation for 1 hunt though. If I get skunked I will head to CO for OTC
So I'm a bit confused by this. This year will be my first year hunting antelope. However, if WY game and fish (the agency tasked with managing the antelope population) believe that there are enough antelope to issue doe/fawn tags why would that make the situation worse?
Part 1.3 - Wyoming
Day 4
We got out a little earlier on day 4 than we had on the previous day. Our goal for the day was to find the group of 17 antelope that we were on as light faded the day before. It took a little while, but I finally located them about 3 miles away from where they had been...
I'm in for Nevada
Bull and cow elk
Buck and doe antelope
Deer.
All I'll apply for.
12 points for Bull, so I'm hoping that should do it for a muzzle loader tag. I debated on applying for elk with my health, but went for it. And my wife didn't accuse me of being crazy for wanting to do it.
CO is pretty tough for antelope. Most are on the eastern side of the state which is pretty much all private. There are some decent opportunities, but it takes a little research. Cross reference the draw report with units that have some public access. Likely easier to get a rifle mule deer tag...
Applicant after the winter of 2022: "I might just throw my doe tag away if I draw one, the Wyoming antelope herds are in bad shape. WGF should take a pause from doe tags."
Same applicant in 2024: "Our group drew 8 doe tags! Gonna be a meat haul back to (state of your choice) with these new Yeti...
The race was on!
No time to unload my canoe to paddle across. Grabbed my model 70/270 and my day pack. Like a hound on a hot trail, I was off and running.
Splash! I forded the river, frigid fall water. Was deeper than I thought, cold wet nuts. What a way to start a late season doe hunt with...
Tomorrow morning well before the sun rises I will depart for Wyoming with my oldest daughter. She had some tough luck in the draw and came up empty on a buck tag, but she drew a doe tag in a different unit. The 2nd choice application was a bit of an afterthought, and if I believe what I read on...
My annual tag count is pretty significant due to great opportunities with state and tribal license options and the family ranch for access. Just in SD between state and tribal tags I should have 2 rifle antelope tags, 4 rifle deer tags (3 buck, 1 doe), 2 archery buck tags, and at least a cow elk...
Congrats! I'm a landowner in NC and I allow other hunters to hunt my places. Me and my buddy have two Antelope doe tags Type 7 for Area 23 we bought before we understood how hard it would be to find private land access to shoot a doe antelope. We are looking for a place to hunt a doe since we...
Part Two
Except for the surprise deep hole I stepped in, it was an easy crossing, sandy bottom, slow current and wide. I scrambled out, took advantage of some cover and glassed upriver.
They were still, browsing, walking, stopping, heads going up and down.
The cover was minimal...
Money bottom line, (insert any F&G agency). Gotta keep biologist and such employed with funding. Having said that WY. is pretty good at juggling that fine line. Populations are pretty low right now out there based on the past in many areas.
Intook mine with a 7mm mag.
I took mine with a 7mag. Just stay behind the shoulders. Use a bullet that will stay together so it dose not blow up and destroy everything your food.
(Sort of in order)
ID mountain goat (daughter's tag)
ID archery gen deer (semi-serious...have a few interesting bucks hanging around near me that I'll try for if they hang around)
UT rifle cow elk (burned points due to price increase)
ID deer (twin daughters and wife)
UT rifle gen deer with...
I agree. We figured out the antelope doe game toward the end of the good years. My hunting buddy and I were like dang for basically $80 we can shoot 2 does or give $300 for a buck. Ya I’ll come out and hunt does every year. My last 2 trips to Wyoming have been for does and cow elk. I’m just fine...
