Thought i would kick us off this year with a winter garden update.
Several different varieties of lettuce going with succession planting as well, lacinato Kale is starting to mature, Savoy cabbage got bit a little by a short freeze, brussel sprouts I just thinned out today for some more elbow...
On vacation at our place in Virginia. Took a day to slide off to an Appalachian stream and try my luck. Nothing ideal about this time of year but a new years day fishing trip was worth it on its own merit. I managed a tiny bit of luck for the day

I would discourage anyone out there from plucking them however. I swear ruddy's have barbs and super glue on their feathers holding them in place.
They get water swatted here also. Them little suckers dont leave the deck when they take flight and look like they always have a 40mph tail wind.
What this gentleman said right here. Especially about ruddy ducks. Im down here in Florida and the least palatable duck I shoot is a Gadwall. Redheads, ruddy, are high on my list. Cans deserve a category of their own. Ringneck ducks are a primary species for us. They eat just as well as wood...
Gorgonzola butter sauce. Or gorgonzola wine sauce as seen above. Particularly for wild game such as venison and duck. My personal position is berry sauces dont accentuate the red meat of venison and duck the way an earthy sauce like gorgonzola does. Again just IMHO.

First phase is open in sunny Florida. Lovely 84 degrees today and my idiot self wore my neoprene waders. The 3 heh ringers were wounded birds I found and finished off otherwise the Gadwall would have been it for the day. Only saw 25 birds.
