    Rear bag for shooting rifles

I second the recommendation from Armageddon gear: https://armageddongear.com/product/shmedium-mid-size-game-changer-shooting-bag/ or https://armageddongear.com/product/squishy-rear-bag-shooting-bag/ I have a couple of both for myself and others when they come shoot. Pricy, but they do hold...

Suggestions for Lead Free Hunting Ammo

For the 7mm-08 I have found that stepping down to the 120gr class is a good choice given your requirements. The factory options are excellent these days and you may have to see what you rifle likes best. Personally I hand load and have found the offerings with the Hammer bullets or the Barnes...

    Compact rifle opinions

We have a Browning X-Bolt in 7mm-08, with an 18" barrel will push 120gr class bullets at around 3,000fps. This is in my opinion a nice compact setup especially when sitting in a tree stand or hunting out of a blind. It also shoots the 140 class bullets closer to +2,700 with Lapua brass and Varget.

Primers, is there really a difference?

In my personal experience, yes there is a difference. I have seen a change in standard deviation and extreme spread when using various primers given the same powder change and bullet. This has resulted in changes in group side on target as well. If you are talking about 100 yards and in...

    Barrel fan

I have used something like this: amazon rechargeable fan They don't make the one I have but you can find something similar and all I did was put a small piece of flexible hose on the end and stick it in the chamber and away you go.

    Best Crossbow for elk?

We currently have one of the 1st generation Ravin crossbows. As much as I wanted to hate them, I am now a big fan. The pros are it works great for every sized individual, and every skill level. The weight is comparable to that of a rifle, and it points and shoots like a rifle so there isn't...

    Youth shotgun?

Take a look at the Weatherby SA-08 in 20 gauge. I know you mentioned a preference for a pump and this is not. I got one for the kids and it has worked great from turkey to pheasants. I see that SA series are not in current production and you may need to look at used if interested. The...

    Superlite Velocity?

I have a 16" barrel in a Remington, the action really isn't important, but it is representative of what you are using. With a 175gr Sierra match king I am getting 2,400 FPS. That load is just for target-based shooting. For hunting I use a 150gr and keep the shots to a much closer range due to...

    DIY trailer conversions

Take a look at this inverter / charger: https://xantrex.com/library/inverters/pro-series/data-sheet/ I have used a couple of them and they are pretty nice. Not the cheapest, however they perform well. with the 1,000 you can get away with running a small microwave as well. The 1800 will...

    DIY trailer conversions

I have done it to a couple different trailers. Personally, I like to put a standard 30A 120VAC twist lock connection on the outside of the trailer for shore power. This then easily adapts to any general extension cord or RV cord and makes it easy to use anywhere. I can top off the batteries...

    Retirement Gift Ideas?

I don't think you can go wrong with a good knife. Got my cousin one who was an avid outdoorsman and he was very grateful. However, your buddy may react like mine did a couple weeks ago when I gave him one for a retirement gift. Got him a Montana Knife company blade. He said cool and...

    Shooting from a tripod

Shooting off tripods can work really well with a little practice. It does come down to your budget. The more you pay the lighter the setup you can get. There are may quality products out there from a few hundred to well over $1,500. I was able to find my tripod used and spent very little on...

    Guess the tow bill

Glad everyone was OK and able to come away from that alive and safe. We had one camper that was always a challenge to pull due to sway no matter how I loaded it. One day I took it to the scales unloaded and loaded weighed each axel and the hitch. I found that the unloaded weight put the...
