Anybody Buying Yet? Where’s the Bottom?

I must say the last few weeks have been very kind to the position I've long held in Google.

School Me on Hunting In Grizz Country

My brother and I generally hunt from early to mid November in grizzly country. We see their sign every year. Even this year, with no snow, we came across a pretty fresh scene of one burying an elk carcass. I would think that this fall with the mild dry weather, there is no reason for them to...

So much for the vaunted Swarovski warranty.

You have stated what should be obvious. Vortex has priced their warranty into the purchase price. To do that, their markup over their manufacturing costs is greater than other companies. Vortex is not some unique benevolent company, they decided that offering a lifetime warranty, and pricing it...

Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

The biggest single thing that would really help health care costs is if somehow Americans could be convinced to exercise and take real care of their body. Collectively, we are in horrible physical condition. A large percentage of middle aged and older adults are insulin resistant, or have type 2...

Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

I have several Canadian friends from my horseback pointing dog field trial habit. None of them have ever expressed envy concerning our health care system. My farrier injured his back this summer. He told me that he had not been to a doctor. I asked him why, and he told me that his deductible...

Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

I guess the election was bound to produce snowflakes. The right has been calling Democrats, socialists and communists for as long as I can remember. The sting is minimal, at most. Sanders and Mamdoni identify as democratic socialists. That would be very similar to the Nordic countries. And...

Are you implying we've turned the corner? 🤣

What are your highly educated opinions on tech in hunting?

It's yet another catch 22. We humans always figure out a way to use a tool to our perceived benefit. There is always a way to misuse a tool. It reminds me of what I have long thought. Hunting does not build character, nearly as much as it reveals it.

What are your highly educated opinions on tech in hunting?

Generally speaking, I would prefer less technology in hunting, but when has mankind willingly moved backwards with knowledge? Most every tool is a double edged sword. While I can see the danger to hunting from thermal inmaging, I can also see the wounding loss rate on big game, going way down...

Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

I'm older than most on this board. Education was prioritized by my parents, back in the day. After my father retired from the Air Force, they chose to move to a college town to make getting a college education within reach. The tuition at North Dakota State, when I went, was $145/ quarter. Books...

Relax, Everything is Going to be Okay!

I wish not being able to get a firewood permit was the biggest problem, presently. You could beg for a pardon if by chance you got pinched. It works sometimes.

    Extra Stupid Window Stickers

It stands to reason that he'd spend money on the oversized smoke stack. It amazes me that they advertise how whacked they are.

    Your Close Calls

This didn't happen to me, and it ended up beyond a close call. Not long after we moved west, so over 40 years ago, this was in the outdoor section of the Billing's Gazette. A hunter, between Cody and the park had killed an elk while hunting solo. While doing that, he cut his femoral artery...

    Your Close Calls

The last close call I had was while elk hunting on horseback. My horse and I were climbing a steep mountain on an informal trail. There was maybe six inches of snow on the ground. The trail petered out, but the mountains slope was no steeper than before. So I kept riding. Unbeknownst to me the...

Air Force Happy Birthday Sept 18, 1947

My father served in the Army Air Corps during WW2. After a short stretch of being discharged from the military after the war, he enlisted in the Air Force and completed a 20 year enlistment. We moved often, while I was growing up. The first memories I have are from Mountain Home AFB in Idaho. I...

    RIP Charlie Kirk

We have a recent example of how one side took an election loss. While no building was burned, it got a thorough trashing. Is there any doubt what would have happened to Pence or Pelosi, if they were actually captured by the rioters. The worst act of domestic terrorism in recent decades was by a...

    B & C Study - 96% Poachers Get Away

My speculation is the number is close enough, to the scope of the problem. When you are hunting, most often there is no witness to your activity. If you decide to poach, I'd think that being fairly certain there are no eye witnesses, is a primary concern. It's been my opinion for a long long...

    RIP Charlie Kirk

Oh please, there literally was a school shooting the same day as Kirk's assassination. It received virtually no coverage. Other than thoughts and prayers, school shootings are a story for a day or three, and then placed on a back burner. The Columbine school shooting happened in 1999. They have...

    RIP Charlie Kirk

Political leaders have been at high risk of assassination going back to Caesar, at least. There have been 45 different men to hold the office of US president. Four of them were assassinated while in office. An additional one was only saved with prompt medical intervention. Another was the target...
