This pretty much sums it up, honestly. If anyone tell you they haven't screwed up a shot or made a bad hit is lying or hasn't hunted much. It happens bud. It sucks.
Congrats are in order, I assure you.... You shot your first BG animal, and stuck it out to the end. You did what you're supposed...
Hmmm. Probably not. I can get a Win, Ruger, Tika Remington, Weatherby, Bergara, for $700 and a Leupold VX 2, 3-9 for $300 of a VX3 for $400 and be well under $1600.
I like what they were trying to do tho. It's just more than I would spend on a set up like that.
Why would the SST's not work for Mulies? I actually find NP tougher to shoot small groups with. I can't reacall any I can get to shoot under MOA actually.
If you got them to 1" at 100, I'd be pretty happy with that. You'd definitely knock down an elk with no worries.
I don't think you could go wrong with a 7-08.
My kids have a Ruger American Compact. I like it quite a bit. It's light, shoots great, and works every time. The first magazine wasn't the best but the others work just fine.
I would also consider the Winchester M70 Compact.
Randy and others,
I LOVE whitetail hunting but have never hunted the mountain bucks you guys are talking about. Big woods in northern MN and WI, but never up in the mountains like you guys.
What are you looking for when you're up scouting them? Terrain, water, foods, bedding areas? How do...
