New to elk hunting.
Stay hydrated. You can't drink enough water. As others said, arrive a few days early to acclimate if you can and take it easy the first couple of days. Once you get used to it and feel like you can run up and down the mountains.....it'll be time to go home. LOL.- Wily Wapiti

2nd Rifle Elk Colorado Weather conditions
Been hunting that general part of CO since the early 90's mostly 2R season. Take everything you have and keep an eye on the forecasts closer to your hunt. Very unpredictable that time of year. Could be a heat wave like last year or a white out. Flip a coin.- Wily Wapiti

I've also hunted 65, 62, 74 and 55 a lot, but very high altitude hunts and further from home so...
I've also hunted 65, 62, 74 and 55 a lot, but very high altitude hunts and further from home so I started trying 78 and really like it. Good luck to you as well in 711 and sorry I'm not familiar with it to give some tips. Good luck in NM as well, that'll be a blast hunting private!- Wily Wapiti
