Very true - that would take a LOT of discipline and control, especially with a skillset like his. But it doesn't make the airplane story any less baffling. That story, if true, is a red flag for anger issues. And I hope he gets help if he needs it.- Topoman

Where to donate money for sportsman issues
Wyoming Wildlife Federation (or your state's equivalent) is a good place to start. They do awesome work for our state. The Western Bear Foundation does good work in support of bear conservation and management out of Cody, Wyoming. Depending where you live, I would also do some research into...- Topoman

Uncompahgre Plateau poaching case ends with guilty pleas
Nonresidents pay more for a legal elk license than some of these clowns paid in fines for poaching elk. Privileges need to be revoked for this kind of behavior. Sadly, this is the case in many other states too.- Topoman

I recently spoke with some horse folks here in central Wyoming who had issues with people destroying cairns that marked a trail moving across a high, windswept plateau. Wyoming 22 success
In a lot of places they cut back this year, due to winter-kill. The units by me in Lander cut quite a few. But in general, I think they have more or less stayed the same and WGFD will bump them back up after a herd comes back from a bad winter. -

Montana Wilderness Whitetails
Any wilderness areas in western MT will have them, except perhaps the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness - that's rocky, mountainous terrain with low deer density and almost all mulies in my experience. I wouldn't bother there. FWP has a "Hunt Planner Map" where you can toggle layers of land... -

In my experience they hit burns when the grass is greening up, but with less fidelity than a deer or elk might. I've made the mistake to hunt burns from the prior year that were too hot (scorched topsoil), and these burns didn't produce a good grass crop until a year or two after that first...- Topoman

The gobbling just recently picked up in SW Colorado where I'm at. We got into a mess of birds this weekend around 7,500'-8,000' in the ponderosa/oak. SE Wyoming/Laramie Small Game Hunters
RWC there's a decent chance I'll be moving to Laramie as well. I loved hunting small game and grouse during my first stint in Wyoming, so if you're looking for a hunting partner just let me know. You can find cottontails pretty easily once you dial them in.- Topoman

Focus on food. Can't emphasize that enough. Figure out what they're feeding on, find sources of food away from roads/trails, and pound the glass. Colorado OTC Mule Deer Units?
I know a guy who had success in the OTC whitetail hunt in Colorado also...not an easy hunt by any means, but better than staying home. I haven't hunted the OTC whitetail stuff there myself. PM me and I can give some more info.
