Wyoming Wildlife Federation (or your state's equivalent) is a good place to start. They do awesome work for our state. The Western Bear Foundation does good work in support of bear conservation and management out of Cody, Wyoming. Depending where you live, I would also do some research into...- Topoman

Uncompahgre Plateau poaching case ends with guilty pleas
Nonresidents pay more for a legal elk license than some of these clowns paid in fines for poaching elk. Privileges need to be revoked for this kind of behavior. Sadly, this is the case in many other states too.- Topoman

Wyoming 22 success
In a lot of places they cut back this year, due to winter-kill. The units by me in Lander cut quite a few. But in general, I think they have more or less stayed the same and WGFD will bump them back up after a herd comes back from a bad winter. -
Montana Wilderness Whitetails
Any wilderness areas in western MT will have them, except perhaps the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness - that's rocky, mountainous terrain with low deer density and almost all mulies in my experience. I wouldn't bother there. FWP has a "Hunt Planner Map" where you can toggle layers of land... -

In my experience they hit burns when the grass is greening up, but with less fidelity than a deer or elk might. SE Wyoming/Laramie Small Game Hunters
RWC there's a decent chance I'll be moving to Laramie as well. I loved hunting small game and grouse during my first stint in Wyoming, so if you're looking for a hunting partner just let me know. You can find cottontails pretty easily once you dial them in.- Topoman
