You mentioned you are a little consfused on the Colorado OTC units. Did you find the OTC unit map in the big game regs? First time elk hunting, Archery or rifle?
Since you are an avid bow hunter, I say go Archery. There's plenty of bugling elk a short distance from the roads if altitude becomes an issue. Last half of September would be my choice if time is a constraint. Was into Elk at 8500-9500 ft last year in SW Colorado.- thebigredrock
