  • Hey Smoua,
My Grandpa drew the unit 41 bull tag in October, I plan on going scouting a couple times in September . Any general advice for the unit would be helpful. Mainly just wondering if it is worth scouting anywhere besides right on the boarder and how the access is in that country (bad roads? private blocking access to public and what not). I have OnX.
Thanks so much for any information,
My fiance drew the unit 41 bull tag and we’ve been out for a couple days and haven’t been able to turn up anything. Any advice on where we should go?

We had the west side. Our best option was to hunt the Nevada border where there is cover. Very rare to see elk out in the fields unless there is a lot of snow in Nevada. This is a migration hunt.

Looks like you can hunt the whole unit 41. It was divided back when we drew it. If you have onx, find sugar loaf mtn near Nevada border. That's where all the elk are. They cross between private/public and between the 2 states down there. Be patient and glass all day in the patch of timbers. Especially mornings and evenings. Expect long shots. Let me know how it turns out. Have fun
    Hello,

I have a cow tag for 40-1 which includes all of 40 and 42 and west side of 41. You mentioned in a post that you knew right where the elk are at. I just need a general location. I haven't hunted the Western half of the county. I didn't really expect to draw the tag. I'm grateful, but don't want to burn a fortune in fuel trying to find a cow. Thanks much!

What is your experience in hunting elk? And how far are you driving to go shoot a cow?
