Thoughts on using a military surplus ruck sack as a first pack until I can save up for a high quality/value pack for Western Big Game hunting?
Yes it will work fine. There are better packs. Just go hunting with it and then you can decide from there how you want to spend your money.- Oldskool67

New boot options?
Finding the boot that fits you best is more important than brand. Sierra does have some good deals. As for Danner’s there really is no comparison between the US made ones and the less expensive imported ones. They have a 40 percent off sale at least once a year and makes the US made models...- Oldskool67

20 year old Model 700 30:06 Practical advice needed
I had an old 30-06 ADL with the cheap synthetic stock. After a couple of years I dropped it in an HS hunter stock with aluminum blocks and added a Timiney trigger. Left it ADL and couldn’t be happier.- Oldskool67
