Hunted for a little over an hour and got my 2. The second one had nice spurs! Great dog work once again. Just a beautiful day to be out with the dogs. I think they enjoy it more than I do, if that is possible!- MNElkNut

I always have a goal to shoot a MN public land rooster. Goal accomplished. The first couple outsmarted me by flying on the opposite side of bushes. But by applying every bit of brain capacity I have, I got the third one. Well okay. Truth be told, it was my labs who outsmarted it. But I didn’t miss!- MNElkNut

Upper Midwest Bird Camp 2026
Leaves should be down in northern MN. Still a few clinging on in west central MN. Saw a woodcock hunting last roosters last week. Weather is going to get cooler on Sunday, which will be fantastic for your hunting. Maybe a little moisture, but nothing in our forecast to suggest a washout.- MNElkNut

Been out four times. Got 2 roosters twice, didnt even see a bird twice. In all fairness, the last time I didnt see a bird got cut short as my son's truck water pump and serpentine belt gave up the fight on the freeway and hour and a half from home. Pulling an enclosed trailer. Was a busy night.- MNElkNut

Upper Midwest Bird Camp 2026
Beautiful walk today. Totally fruitless in terms of birds, but saw a really big whitetail buck at ohhhh, 12 feet. 150"+. Interesting where I jumped him. He was unapproachable from about 350 degrees, but I took a weird route and was in the 10 degrees he couldnt see, hear or smell. For a...- MNElkNut
