I use a 40 lb bag of wood pellets for my Traeger. When I am done training in the fall, I use them. Dog food works well too, but if going in griz country I don't want to smell like a dog food bag. So wood pellets it is. Super easy and nothing to store.
Ours dropped really early this year. Late Dec into January. By end of January, they were all dropped except a very few. We scouted lots of deer (like a thousand or more) Feb 1/2 and saw exactly 3 bucks with headgear and one of them only had 1. Pretty early for here.
