Selling Public Land for Budget Reconciliatory Bill
Rep Troy Downing (R-MT) has been silent on this issue. I tried to get on his town hall call today...never got around to my comments on public land. No way can I vote for any Democrat given what they have become. But if Republicans continue on this road, maybe we can start a new Public Lands...- Meteetse Trail

Montana House Bill 676 - This could sell off 1.25M acres of State Trust Lands - that's almost 25%!!! This is not the Homesteading Bill
Amended bill has passed the committee. I contacted my senator and asked him to vote against it when it hits the floor. No reason to give lessees any permanent ownership of water from state land.- Meteetse Trail

Glad to see this. Bill is still flawed in that it gives a lessee permanent ownership of water rights on state land. That means if he surrenders the lease at some point, he can sell water rights to the next guy for big bucks. Should be simple. If a guy drills a well or makes a stock pond on...- Meteetse Trail

Chairman made reference to "amendments" to the bill, but no specifics. Apparently discussed in executive session later. Keep watching. Best hope is they just table the thing and let it peacefully go away.- Meteetse Trail

If its an issue of $$ for education from state lands, I for one will be happy to pay $10 or more for a conservation tag to use state lands. Just don't sell/give them away. This was slipped in behind closed doors to benefit a few.- Meteetse Trail

Sent comment to the committee. I have contacted some media outlets (Gazette, Montana Free Press, KTVQ). If members can make a few calls to media across the state, it can help, especially TV and daily newspapers. Contact the outdoor editor. This needs to be exposed. Sent letters to local papers and to Senator. Made calls to media outlets. Call your outdoor editor at your local paper..show a spotlight on this!
