Super late to this thread. BUT I will say if Idaho is trying to discourage NR from coming, they've succeeded with me, due to the current system I've never even considered going for an ID tag (you're welcome residents) 😂
Awesome that you're able to get back in the field. For me I'll be visiting the cowboy state in October for region Y general deer. I've never been to the area and it will be a solo trip but I have the points to draw and the vacation time so I figure I'll go and see if I can turn up a deer.
I will admit that when it comes to 2nd amendment issues and fighting the corrupt bureaucracy swamp creatures in DC I'm impressed with Gaetz and his compadres, but you're right that this anti public land thing is ridiculous.
Ultimately this R v NR debate will be completely irrelevant if we can find a way to drastically grow herd sizes. I for one will gladly support anything that will help make this happen. And that's one criticism of management practices here in the east. The status quo has kind of become "shoot...
I second the motion. I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had and will cherish those ahead so long as they exist. Lord willing once I retire I'll leave this communist kingdom (NY) behind and make for the setting sun.
I could get on board with it. If I have to sacrifice some type of technology or such in exchange for more opportunities to be out hunting I'm all for it
And this again brings me back to something that may be controversial but I think seriously warrants consideration. Let's say I own 1,000 acres and @Big Fin lives in an apartment in the same state. We're both residents and thereby both beneficiaries in this hypothetical example. Is it right for...
I'll offer one caveat here. I would love to hunt big game on private land.......the old fashioned way. IE, "hello my name is....nice to meet you....would you be willing to let me hunt on your land? You would? Thank you so much" These types of places do still exist but they are getting harder to...
Privatization is increasingly becoming a serious problem. Here in my home state we have a "nuisance tags" program which gets abused heavily. Basically large acreage owners get 10+ extra tags every year no questions asked because they have a "deer problem" which then get handed out to those...
Randy made a really powerful point in the podcast that we as a hunting community need to act on before it's too late. Let's say a state decides to jack up the NR elk tag price. That is the state's right, and I wouldn't take that right from them. But the herd size continues to shrink so then they...
