Got a great deal on the Leica Magnus 1.8-12x50 so I ended up going with that. Looking forward to getting that mounted and sighted in on my Hell's Canyon Speed. Thanks for all the suggestions and input. It was really close between the Meopta R1, Swarovski Z5, but since the Leica was about the...
Head is swimming with options now and having a hard time figuring it out.
I think I narrowed it down to Meopta MeoPro, the new Optika6, R1, or a used Kahles 3-10 Helia CSX from SWFA.
I was in Dallas for work and got to look through the Kahles and compare the clarity of the VX-5HD, Meopta...
Thanks for everyone's suggestions, it is greatly appreciated. I handled almost all the rifles suggested and fell in love with the feel of the Browning Hell's Canyon Speed.
Still have youngish eyes so non-illuminated should be fine. I like the 2-10 range of the 5HD. Everything else seems a bit overkill for what I will be doing.
Figured out which rifle I am getting and now I need to figure out my glass. Looking for recommendations for under $1k. I'll mostly be doing tree stand hunting from 30-150 but would take it out West if I have a hunt come up. Regardless, I can't imagine taking anything beyond 300-400 yards max...
Thanks to everyone that has contributed to this. It has been a huge help. I think I am going to pick up the Hell's Canyon Speed in the next couple of days. Played with the Weatherby, Bergara, and Christensen rifles and the HC Speed just felt the best in my hands.
Didn't mean you were a cheerleader of the brand. Just saying every brand has its positives and negatives. Appreciate the input. Sounds like you have a great shooting gun.
I am giving a hard look at the Browning Hell's Canyon Speed in 6.5 PRC. Little concerned about the limited ammo options but, if it is anything like the 6.5 Creedmoor, that should open up in the next year or so. I need to get into a store soon to get a real feel for the guns though.
Not too worried about getting the ammo. The options for rifles in that caliber are significantly less than the Creedmoor. Most of them are out of the budget for this round.
