Hell of a write up. I was glued in to every new post. More importantly it addresses the importance of the experience and story, over the trophy/kill. It really makes me feel less bummed out as a new hunter who failed on his first elk run, but knowing I put in the work. Thank you!
Hey NMtriguy. I'd love to pick your brain about 6A (second year hunting it for me), but can't message you as well. Please shoot me an email at [email protected]. thanks
If you've got an leads on some experienced backcountry elk hunters interested in joining in on a wilderness muzzleloader hunt in Northern New Mexico, let me know! I'm a second year elk hunter and still solo for my planned trip. I'm more than willing to pay for the meat processing and share a...

This! As a new elk hunter myself, I was told to "glass glass glass" but there's only a handful of open valleys in the wilderness I hunted last year, and I put in a LOT of miles. The weight of the binos and fumbling around with them just wasn't worth the effort. A range finder in dense...
First year out shed hunting (why didn't I know this was a thing until this year?). I guess hunting elk for the first time last season got me interested. I feel pretty happy with the finds. Unfortunately, no set. There's probably 140 hiked miles in rough terrain over the bunch. Public land...
Yea, it was a gamble. Most likely we just hit the lucky number with similar apps as last year, but we'll see. I'm excited because muzzle guys blew out my scouted area last year before rifle.
Well will ya look at that. Scored the same unit elk as last year, but muzzleloader instead of 1st rifle. I knew the EZ-mode muzzle guys would switch to rifle this year. Plan: Success.
