    Wall Tent Setups

Hello everyone. I know this has been a topic a few times, but I’d like to throw out a new thread as a refresher. I’m looking for ideas to make my wall tent more convenient after a long hunt. Usually I think “this would be handy” while I’m in camp, then try to remember to fabricate whatever I was...

    Selway Elk

I’m looking at hunting the Selway region this year in Idaho. Unit 19 most likely and no horses/pack animals. Does anybody hunt this unit or have hunted it in the last five years? I hear wolf predation is pretty bad. Is there a lot of hunting pressure as well? I’d like to lay eyes in the area...

    Can someone please

Dude goes “glamping” and shoots some obscure European round. The man purse is for his .22 derringer. Protection from bears.

    Sunday Pic of the Day

Wasn’t the bull I was after. This hunt was something extraordinary though. I had been out every day for weeks before season started. It was a three month season and as soon as it started I was hitting it hard. I had a bull picked out that was in the neighborhood of 46-48” and had double eye...

    6.5 Remington Mag

6.5 has been around for a long time. Long before they were called “six-fives.” I’m sure it will be an outstanding rifle.

    Component Availability

Ammo seek has a lot of once fired brass. It’s few and far between for new brass, depending on brand and caliber. Primers seem to be on the same trend. I have the best luck googling and searching for an hour for something in stock, but be prepared to spend 2-4 times as much as you did pre-pandemic.

    MT- Rifle Opener

Get out early on the first day. Probably find a few bulls with their cows, but most will hole up in places that make you cringe.

    Powder Life

As long as it was in a sealed container with no moisture/humidity, it should be fine.

Hope he’s tough because he sure is dumb.

    MT general Seasons

I prefer hunting November with a rifle. Snows will push elk around more. In October following the rut, the elk are in deep dark holes and not easily accessible. I’m a big proponent of work smarter, not harder.

    Colorado corner crossing legislation proposal

IMO corner crossing should be legal. If access to public lands are closed off by private, there should be a right of the public to access via corner crossing or easement. But I also don’t own land that’s only accessible to me, so take that for what it’s worth.

    Which headlamp?

The Amaker headlamp is great. It adjusts the scope of the light from wide to narrow, but it is rechargeable. 90000 lumens but a great headlamp in camp. I’ve packed mine on short day hunts and it was great when butchering.

    What are you currently reading?

The Potts Factor vs. Murphy’s Law. It’s a great book by Stanley Potts. He was a rancher in Idaho and Nevada and guided a lot of hunts over a lot of years for elk and sheep in the Frank Church Wilderness of Idaho. One of the great storytellers.
