Got the 45-70 out for a hog hunt... About a 25 yard shot with the 350 grain RN Hornady. Instant drop! A great way of shopping for pork.

Have the 45-70 Marlin dialed in for an upcoming hog hunt in Oklahoma: Am anticipating shorter range shots so I zeroed at a mere 50 yards with handloaded 350 grain Hornady RNSP bullets. Ya, that's only a 50 yard target, but I'm pleased. Regards, Guy

Why & what do you handload?

Dad and Grandpa taught me to handload when I was a kid in the early 1960's. At about age 5 or so I got to seat the bullets for their rifles! Grew up handloading and I remember being surprised when I learned that people actually hunted with factory ammo. These days I do some "bulk" reloading...

    35 Whelen

Without any real attempt to do so on my part, I find myself in possession of four 30-06 bolt action rifles and often hunt with one. I've seriously considered getting one of them re-bored to 35 Whelen or the slightly different 9.3x62. Both are just a bit behind the 375 H&H for power. Both are...

    Winter photos

Chelan County Washington: It was a good winter for wildlife watching. Lowlands didn't get much snow, which is just fine with me! Regards, Guy

Spencer's double rifle from the 1923 TV Series

Shrapnel, thanks for the info! I'm enjoying the heck out of 1923, from the first episode to their current problems. I like the way the story weaves several related threads together show after show. Ranch problems, native gal fleeing the school, the two newlyweds making their way halfway around...

    20-22” 6.5 Creedmoore

My Bergara with the carbon fiber wrapped 22" threaded barrel shot great as it came from the factory. Later I swapped on a Boyds laminate stock that is a little bigger than the lightweight factory stock and fits me better. Original: And the way it looks now: It comes with a muzzle brake...

    Hiking options

Southwest for sure! It snowed again in our northwest mountains last night. Looks like the fresh snow line is at about 2,000' ASL. Southwest has lots of great hiking/backpacking trails available. Beautiful out there too. Enjoy! Guy

    Big Bullets for Big Animals?

I've shot three black bear with my Ruger Number One in 375 H&H, all spot and stalk hunts. Two more with the 30-06, one of those was over bait, the other spot and stalk. Intended to hunt elk and African big game with the 375, but that hasn't happened. May not. Previous owner of my 375 used it...
