  • If you get out there soon, you should be able to bugle in these areas to locate a bull possibly. If you find a bull, there should be cows nearby since they are currently mating. When I shot my elk, I sort of accidentally found them on my way home and the landowner was nice enough to let me on the next day. I wish I could be more help, but focusing on those two areas, making some calls to landowners in those areas should get you on a cow elk. Good luck.
I wish I could help more, but I really had some dumb luck finding mine. My suggestion would be to go on Gap Road which runs east to west between the killdeer mountains. I can't remember the names of the landowners, but there are no shortage of posted signs along that road. I would take a drive down that road and write down the names on the signs. Nearly all of them were on the landowners list that the G&F hand out with your license. Most of the landowners that I talked to were along the little missouri. I was given advice to go to the cherry creek area. I'm not sure if you are familiar where that is, but if you look at a map of the little missouri north of killdeer, there is a big oxbow in the river northwest of killdeer. Directly north of this is the cherry creek area. Most of the elk are taken either in the killdeer mountains or the cherry creek area each year.
Hi, I saw you had a past elk tag and sounds like you found a lot of elk. My mom and sister drew cow tags in E2 this year and with ranching and work I did not get to do near enough scouting for them as I had planned. They both have shot one deer so they aren't real experienced hunters so hoping for a good set up and hopefully a close shot but they will be practicing at the range the next couple weekends. If you could give me and pointers or tips on where to go or landowners to contact I would appreciate it very much. Thank you!
