Blue grouse go uphill to spend the winter where there are fewer predators and in southeastern Wyoming they spend the winter eating buds of aspen and needles of pine, fir, and Douglas-fir. White Rag to Attract Antelope?
I've done it a half dozen times with a rag and a hat. Had one come almost 600 yards. Works best if they haven't figured out exactly what you are yet, and are alone and rutting. -

Has happened every year since preference points began. Like you, other people scan the drawing odds, and after not drawing a license for several years, decide to switch to an area where their points will allow them to draw a license. Hunting is more fun than waiting. -

Plans with your dog this year
My 9 year old French Brittany and I will chase dusky grouse starting September 1, and off and on through mid-October, in between elk hunts, then some put and take pheasants(about all there is in WY these days), followed by 90 days hunting Gambel's quail over the winter in AZ. seeking Montana and Wyoming turkey hunting opportunities
I hunted the Custer NF northeast of Ashland a few years ago and found plenty of turkeys. Ditto S and SE of Ashland on the NF. You can also have a combo WY-SD hunt in the Black Hills NF, but have to get the SD Black Hills license from the headquarters in Pierre via the online application...- DrH

Pine Ridge Nebraska turkey hunting trip
You do know that the public land on the Pine Ridge burned a few years ago? Went there last spring after having hunted there pre-fire for nearly 30 years, and most of the public land looked like No Man's Land in WWI. Changing rifles because of excess recoil.
I have never enjoyed recoil, nor shooting until I develop a flinch. After watching hunters with magnums(and some non-magnums) at sight-in days, it is obvious a whole lot of people simply cannot even sight in a magnum caliber, in heavy or light rifles. I shudder to think how they are able to... -
