Here is the elephant in the room.
ALWAYS strip your barrel down to clean steel when you go from gilded bullets to mono copper. I don't know why but, every copper bullet I have shot will always shoot better in a barrel that is fouled with only all copper bullets. Yes, it's a real thing. AND most...
YUP, about $3 a shot. I have no idea how much that would be if I had to buy factory loads. The last time I saw factory shells for my gun was a few years back and they were well over $100 for 20.
I have a dial-up scope on my 8mm RM MAG rem 700 now.
I sent the Dope to Leopold and had them make a turret for my load—200 gr Hammer 3229 fps. I did a 10-shot zero at 100. It gives me a 5" group at 500 yards shooting off a bench aiming dead on.
But, I did the MPBR sight in before I had it, If I...
We are not loading MAX, she is only a 90-pound girl.
Probably the same as a 7mm/08.
We are averaging 2852 with the 140 bullets.
But, she can get close to a .5" at 100 yards.
Well dang the not-so-little GD( 15 now) got her first antelope tag. YA!
In fact, we all did but it's not our first rodeo.
She has taken deer out as far as 240 ish yards. But antelope are very different, no trees or anything to judge distance, or any perspective at all.
I made a target, I will...
BEFORE you try ANY copper bullet.
YOU HAVE to clean your bore down to Bare steel.
This step is VERY important.
Copper bullets will not shoot to their full potential, shooting over Gilding metal fouling. Trust me on this. I have no idea why but it has been proven multiple times. All my rifles...
There can't be much difference. Both use a full-sized 375 H&H brass, like the 8mm rem mag.
Would it be as simple as using some of my 8mm brass and necking down to make an STW?
Of course, I'd have to find a doner and get a barrel.
