How to best spend 3 scouting days in August

Sounds awesome! I look for three things in August to inform September: Wallows, Water and Cows, in that order. Looks like you found some of it!

CO Unit 43 Mule Deer - Wheels up in 11 hours!

Think water. Find water. Aside from maybe 10 days, it’s been dry as hell in 43 since February.

    Possibilities bag

This is the most overpacked area of my whole kit. Everything else is very minimal. I swear. My kill kit lives in one half of my possibilities kit. Medical kit is separate. For that I start with the Adventure Medical Sportsman 200 and add Quick Clot, a C Splint, inflatable CPR mask, Imodium and...

    Morning Archery Elk Strategy

^ Same, though it does depend on where I’m camped. If I sleep high for some reason (glassing until dark, easy access to a bedding area mid-morning, etc.) I’ll glass from a safe spot for wind until the thermals change, then head down.

    Calling all coffee snobs...

I carry a protein shaker bottle and I mix a shake and Via before leaving camp to drink when I’m stationary.

Anyone know of a good place to find used PFDs Type III?

There are whitewater Facebook groups in a lot of places that have gear posted. Also Craigslist.

    Backpacking Food

I've had a mixed experience with the Grayl. I've used the Grayl for 2.5 years. It's light and simple and quick to use, so long as you can remember not to contaminate the inner bottle with raw water. The issue I've had is that the filter clogs pretty quickly and when that happens, it takes my...

    Backpacking Food

I generally pack the same thing day-over-day. It’s monotonous but also predictable and mindless. Breakfast is a protein shake, Rx Bar or Bobo Bar, and instant coffee. Usually once I’ve reached my first glassing spot. Lunch and snacks are jerky, Clif bar, 2 Justin’s nut butter squeezes, 3-4...

Who else got lucky this morning?

I got lucky on my first choice for either sex archery mule deer for the first time. There were 9 tags available in my unit. Very stoked.

    Sitka Mountain Hauler 6200

For sale is a Sitka Mountain Hauler 6200 used for less than 45 trail days. Shoulder yoke and belt are size Large. Color is Optifade Subalpine. $295 shipped to lower 48 from Colorado. I'd prefer Venmo. I've used this pack for anything from weeklong backpacks to day hunts. The internal load...

    Elk .... Let's see them!!!

Longtime lurker, first-time poster. Happy August. I’m starting to miss some sleep with anticipation for September here in Colorado. This is the bull I took on an OTC archery tag in Colorado two years ago. I called him away from his cows at 8:30 in the morning in mid-September, 6 1/2 miles from...
