Well buddy, I started when I was 40, and now I sit with 13 points. When I started, I was told that would be enough to draw a good moose unit. To say that things have changed really doesn't describe the present situation. There are multiple factors contributing to the dread "point creep", but...
I am seriously debating dropping out of moose, I have 12 points. I knew the tag price went up but didn't know about the point price too. If I can put together a solid DIY plan I may be able to do it, but going outfitted now it looks like easily a $10k hunt when you add the tag and travel...
both are great
My '06 A bolt loved Interbonds and I pancaked a few big mulies with them, and I mean no steps taken pancaked. Same with whitetails. I haven't been able to get them for a couple years, so before my elk hunt last year, I switched to Accubonds - 165 gr. I shot .75" groups at 100...
What the heck
I ordered, entered a different code for a 10% discount, and then wasn't given a discount on my order. Not a good start to our relationship.
this big
I didn't debone fully, took a 100 and a 70 to hold a 6x6 and I think about 60# of ice. Cape etc. was wrapped up in a tarp and covered with a sleeping bag(and another 20# ice). This got me back to Wisconsin from Ten Sleep WY in very warm temps with no problem.
bozo
Don't forget to apply your Bozo the hunting clown makeup, can't hunt without looking like you could sub in for KISS or step in for a wrastlin' bout. Anybody showing up in one of our camps looking like that would get a bottle of Schlitz to the head. Again, this sort of tripe makes me...
boots
I've had Pronghorns, as well as several of the higher end American made Danners, still have a pair of their Canadiennes (all leather) that are 15 years old. Pronghorns will not perform in the mountains, not like a pair of dedicated mountain boots. On the other hand, Pronghorns are like...
The April special just posted by Davis is that they have been forced into a price increase, effective June 1st. May have to just forget about the whole thing, big difference between want and need.
So I just got an email back from Davis and they indicated they would have a sale but it would be a month or two, which is a departure from in the past. I have already done my homework and talked to them previously, just waiting to pull the pin.
I read that in the past Davis tent had a spring sale, I'm thinking of purchasing one of their tents and was wondering if anyone had an idea of the timing of this sale, or if there even is one. Also any of your experiences related to this sale would be appreciated.
think fish
I cut grouse and pheasant into 1" strips, dredge in flour, dip in beer batter (take time to find a good recipe.... allrecipes.com is a good start) and fry in an inch of oil in cast iron. Sometimes I'll roll 'em in coconut after battering. This is a fool proof method used by myself...
stoves and such
A couple things. Running good hardwood like sugar maple, ash, red or white oak, that is bone dry makes all the difference. This will give off enormous heat, but more importantly, it lets you turn the damper near shut and shut down the air intake. Those hardwood chunks will...
appreciate the info
This has been very enlightening. I cashed out my NR points last year on an oddball unit that I researched in Wyoming and took a nice 320 bull. I have points in other states but now am just going to ride those out and won't be putting in for any new ones. I make a good...
