Well, thx for the replies. My pockets probably aren't deep enough but I'm pretty good at fencing so I'm sure the N-Bar will be happy to make a deal with me 🙄.
I'll figure something out somehow.
My email name is 400orbust which is why I used that as my handle here. Do I expect to ever get a 400 bull? No. I don't. The point is I'm going to hunt elk until I can't. Neither did I ask where to hunt a 400" bull. I simply asked if there is paid access in these units that anyone knows...
I started another thread but maybe this is better here?
I drew a 411-20 tag and am interested in finding paid access ranches to hunt on in either of those units. I plan to archery hunt but be picky and then rifle hunt if need be. I'm accomplished and capable so not really interested in a...

Welcome to the forum, I'm new also around here. My 2 cents is to not be concerned about other hunters. Even if you pull into a campground and there are 6 rigs there everybody seems to spread out and you have plenty of space. Opportunities tend to be fairly abundant in region 3 and I agree...
I agree with you for the most part, but some people do know what true numbers are. I do realize there is a lot of skepticism when numbers are thrown around and I'm no different.
It was a very close relative and he doesn't want the pic on the internet, and he didn't put it in the books so I can offer no proof to you. I understand without proof it is just words on a page. My point was that there are bulls in that category still out there on public land. Yes it was a...
I grew up on elk meat and that is ultimately my goal every year. However I'm very fortunate in my job that I can devote several weeks each year to hunt so sometimes I get picky until my last week. A few of my bulls have been over 300, the largest being 330. Last year I ended up with a one...
I was trying to quote an above message re: where Chuck Adams got his bulls but haven't figured out how to do that yet.
Anyways, I think he got those bulls prior to the 900 permit being in place, not that that changes anything.
Also, I agree with those of you about the 900 permit but I guess I...
I appreciate the discussion.
Bulls of that caliber are around. I have two relatives, both MT residents, that have each killed true 380 bulls on accessible public land within the last 4 years (one was bitterroot valley other was central MT). And another guy I know that got a 375 bull same way...
Talk2elk...thanks for the info on 380. That is inline with the perception I've found elsewhere.
SE and breaks may be where I focus. I have seen some bulls of the quality I'm looking for around Ft. Peck but that was deer hunting 8-10 years ago and haven't been back since. I do know there...
I disagree a little. Yes access has a lot to do with it but having a rifle tag in low draw permit area with proven large bulls is a significant difference over a general area.
Thanks for buffer zone description.
The 10% non-resident cap is per unit and it actually says "up to 10%". In looking at draw statistics in many units the non-resident permits often are only 8-9%.
Also, I *think* a unit has to have at least 25 (maybe it was 35) permits in order for there to...
Thanks for the replies so far...in my researching 380 isn't what it maybe once was. I'd be interested in knowing otherwise. For me it has just been a points builder for the years I didn't want to draw due to work schedules etc.
Yes this is a good problem to have, I recognize that. With the...
Hi everyone. I've been a lurker on and off for awhile but I'm at the point that I need some advice so I've registered and hoping I can find that help here. I'm looking (like many are) for a big bull.
But...before I ask for help a little about me: I was born and raised in Montana and...
