Carbon is a waste of $ unless you think it’s worth that for aesthetic reasons. @p_ham posted this thread showing the options out there to not need a fat barrel for muzzle threads:

for cheap savage barrels I’d look into the urban rifleman...
I'm positive you're right and that it happens at times. But 5 rounds of 30-06 aint that much and a barrel shouldn't get that hot and if it's properly stress relieved it shouldn't be throwing shots. I'm of the opinion that people blame hot barrels for lots of issues that aren't because of a...
What is the twist rate on that thing? I thought I saw they are putting fast twists on some of those 257s such that you could shoot the new quarter bore heavy pills. That would be a real laser beam with the new 133 berger or 134 ELDm.
To elaborate - Overlay all 3 of those groups with the POA aligned and you get one bigger group with the same general POI. The average of those 3 groups is 1.15 MOA. A gun/load/shooter that averages 1.15 MOA 5 shot MOA should shoot occasional groups smaller and larger than those shown so you...
I don’t bother with it much anymore either. Set bullets roughly 0.050” off and go. The really small increments are particularly worthless in rifles that erode throats at any considerable rate.
For a hunting rifle that most guys are going to shoot 3 round groups varying from say 0.5” to 1.25” or...
a 7mm or 300 isnt going to reliably anchor an elk on lung shots anyway and i think deliberately aiming away from the center of vitals to try to anchor one is a bad idea most of the time. A 270 isn't a handicap that requires special bullets or reduced ranges for 98% of hunter's capabilities.
Thanks for the input. Recoil lug seems fine thus far.
UM is basically doing what I asked for in your "Custom Gun Options" thread last spring, but offering with all the cerakotes, flutes, carbon, etc..
Just found this thread searching for @p_ham input on stockys being worth bedding or not as the inlet isn’t flawless on the rokstok that showed up today. Looks like I’m in good company with rings/scope setup. I think these UM highs will be good for me if I throw that leather cheek rest they are...
Met my wife on Bumble in the minneapolis area circa 2019. My profile pic was a selfie i took with pack llamas on my way out of a successful elk hunt. She's a little different politically than me, not interested in guns, etc but we share enough in common that our differences are pretty easily...
Intrigued by this one.
Beyond waiting to hear more about glass quality, lots of bad reports about vectronix customer service/warranty work which is a big deal because it seems like rangefinders are about the least reliable gear out there even if they cost thousands..
I’ve had a sig 2400 ABS for a long time and it’s always been good to me. Really liked using a ballistic silver on leica geovid hd-b binos too but they had issues in the cold that got two pairs warrantied so I sold the 2nd warranty replacement pair before using them.
