    I may be getting old...

I felt really old yesterday, and sill feeling it today. Went fishing with a friend and when we got back to the dock he tied up my boat. As I was getting out of the boat I tripped on something, bounced off the end of the dock and SPLASH! I had to swim over to the boat ramp to get out. At least my...

    Panfish in the cypress

I posted the picture on a Louisiana fishing site and the best answers I got were swamp privet berries, which I had never heard of. Humidity, and heat, damn. I wish it was just a slap on the face. I grew up there but have lived in New Mexico 40+ years, so I'm no longer acclimated to that much...

    Panfish in the cypress

Yes, and chinquapin is another common name in LA.

    Panfish in the cypress

In late May I spent some time at my old homestead in NW Louisiana and vowed to do fewer chores/projects and more fishing, was partially successful. Best 2 trips with my wife were in a nearby lake fishing in and around the cypress trees, focusing on panfish with worms and crickets. I really like...

    What is you "Happy Place"?

Lots of happy places, but a favorite is a November sunrise on the Rio Grande, hunting ducks with my dog.

    Lets see your fishing boat!

Don't have a good picture of my NM boat; 1997 18ft Lund Alaskan center console with 90 Evinrude and 5 hp kicker. I added a front casting deck and trolling motor, and a bench seat in front of console. It's been a great multipurpose boat for fishing and hunting. Hard to believe I've had this boat...

    2024 Colorado Draw Results Thread

Got hit for elk, which was expected. But I thought the new 75/25 rule might bite so was a bit worried.

The "tile" they use, that effectively determines your random number, is not calculated by a computer program, the method is shown in this picture. So the speed is determined by digestion, requires patience. 😃

    2024 Nevada Draw Results

Nothing for me, as expected, I don't think I had any hunt with odds above 1%.

If accurate I drew general deer, which was expected, and nothing else, also expected.

    Arbitrary Hunting Goals

I knew I was forgetting something, I also got a bison in Wyoming (which has been good to me). So I'm only lacking mtn lion for NA 10. Not sure I'll ever get one.

    Mother’s Day Gifts?

I bought my wife an electric down-rigger. No, wait, that was a anniversary gift 😁.

    Arbitrary Hunting Goals

I have a similar, but easier goal, just want to bag any big game species in the interior western states you listed. It's not something I set out to do a long time ago, just sort of stumbled into almost getting there. Of course after writing this (and a few other things) on my bucket list I've...

throwing good app money after bad and repeat

I considered dropping NV this year, but stayed in I guess because it gives me a 1% chance of drawing a desert bighorn tag, maybe. Yes, the total application costs to apply in most western states has gotten absurd, but at my age I'll just keep spending my kid's inheritance 😄. I have dropped a few...

    2024 Utah Draw Results

I should draw a general deer archery tag, sharing points with my nephew. Burned my elk and limited entry deer points a few years ago, unlikely I'll ever draw them again.

    Shovelers

Someone said this duck could be entered into Spoon & Crockett. 😁

    Shovelers

They are beautiful in full plumage, but they usually plume out late so it's fairly uncommon to see them during duck season. Along with their highly variable eating qualities, and the goofy looking bill they just aren't high on my list. But I'll shoot them if circumstances align.

    Canvasbacks

Sorry, those are not your coots, they are scoters, called "coots" by the northeasterners. But I thought about you when I saw that 😁
