Offseason Tinkering

I switched the stock on my 404 Jeffery to something used I picked up online. Went from this one that I did up last year when I built the rifle:

To this.

The new used stock didn't have any reinforcement and very little bedding. An internal crack had already started between the trigger box and magazine. So I decided to add crossbolts and a steel pin through the stock wrist. I've never done anything like that before. Made a drill jig for the wrist pin using my Shopsmith multitool. Here the stock is ready to be drilled.

I modified a pair of Winchester Safari Express crossbolts so less wood would need to be removed.

And here is the stock in a jig on the Shopsmith as I finish countersinking for heads of crossbolts.

After the action was fitted to the stock (required shortening the rear action screw and removing metal from top of mag box), I did some serious action bedding fore and aft with JB Weld. Then I stripped the old finish and used Linspeed oil to complete the project. Switched my Springfield's former 1" 3x Weaver scope for a new 1-4x "tactical" 30mm Bushnell with a lower one-piece base.
