Winchester M70 long action blank canvas... ideas on what to build.

The M70 and the 270 go together like vanilla ice cream and apple pie but you can improve, yes 270 AI. A faster twist will give you the ability to use today's tipped bullets. At velocities over 3300 fps you won't need a magnum. :)

    Mauser Caliber Ideas

May I suggest the 6.5x55 Improved. It is not that far behind the 6.5-284, if at all, and you don't have to alter the feeding rails. As a bonus you will maintain the 5 shot capacity.

7mm-08 not just for kids and women…

Got the Marlin XS7 in 7mm-08 Rem. Fantastic shooting, light weight rifle. Really accurate and light. The only part that annoys me is the cheap plastic stock.

    Favorite Elk Calibers

Put me down for the 7x57 Mauser. I no longer enjoy recoil, so the 280 Remington and the 270 Winchester are good friends of mine too, but I have put more creatures down with the Mauser than anything else. In the 1990s I did most of my hunting with this rifle, Savage M110 WLE in 7x57. It had a...

    Do you get tired?

No never get tired of the best part of life. You do need a break every now and then.

Did you shoot your first deer with open sights?

My "hunting" career commenced with an air-rifle, killed many birds with that springer and its irons. Than I advanced to a 12g scuttergun hell I killed everything with that but not deer. I got my first deer with Savage M110 with a 4x Burris. At 290 long paces I could not have done it with...

    Ben Avery Shooting Range

Well done but I think that young man might want to learn to use some modern weapons, maybe something from the 20th Century. LOL :D (y)

    I think I want a pistol

    Alabama deer hunt.

Wow, 2500 fps with 300gr bullet that's 375 H&H performance. That's insane. I guess you learn something every day.

Tape at the end of barrel?

In the 80s in the Army they use to issue us with condoms in muddy conditions. Yeah I know, we laughed too but you follow orders. :)

Thanks, I have been to the U.S. twice. If family conditions allow I might go again but I am happy enough here for now. I shoot a lot of tin cans and some ferals too. ;)

That's a lot to write about but here is a snap shot: Plenty of "game" to shoot but they will not let you shoot it. Bird hunting is almost outlawed with only three states maintaining game bird seasons. It looks like they will end game bird hunting (duck and quail) in my state this year (it's...

Warm to hot, middle of summer. Plenty of snakes in the woods and the beach is a better place. Here in Melbourne it's fine, as they say if you don't like the weather wait five minutes. 😂

Strewth mate, I am trying. Fair shake of the stick I've only been here a minute and you already cracked the shits. Just to be straight, I got my budgie smugglers on sitting by the pool sucking on a frothy.:LOL::LOL: Nah, you won't see much of that from me, like to blend in.

HOWA 270 Win Replacement - Ugh!

Sorry to hear that Sir, keep well and keep shooting. BTW the 7mm-08 is a gentle one to shoot. The most overlooked cause of perceived recoil is the LOP (length of pull) in most cases it is a little short and that amplifies the felt recoil. (y)

Is that a single action or double action?
