Wyoming elk special NR draw
It's interesting because just looking at points it didn't change that much. Last year it was 4+ points for the special general tag (29% at 4 points)and this year it was essentially 4 points to draw (91% at 4 points in the West). Will be very interesting to see how this sorts out next year as...- npaden

The SCR is for "Small Contributing Ranch". Those are not guaranteed tags, those are drawn through a different drawing. That would be a good place to start if you want to change the system.- npaden

Yes. He can apply in the NR DIY regular quota. There are several states that throw NR youth a bone in some form or another. Reduced price youth licenses that allows them to apply, specific youth tags that they can apply for, etc. There are a few states that specifically reserve their youth...- npaden

When they first went to the 6% they rounded it so that if the quota was 10 tags, Resident youth got 8, Outfitter pool got 1 and Nonresident DIY got 1. Be honest about your Wyoming elk app!
Looking at the Bison drawing the price went from $4,500 to $6,500 and the applicants went from 443 down to 369 a decrease of 17%. I know I was responsible for 2 of the 74 applications that dropped out. The fee increase was part of it but the $163 nonrefundable credit card processing fee X 2...- npaden

I don't know. The arguments comparing the New Mexico elk herd to the ones in Nevada and Arizona are pretty compelling. All 3 of those states have water as a limiting factor. It wasn't my intent. The privatization of wildlife is a concern, I just don't see a good solution. The New Mexico model does encourage habitat improvements and there could be an argument that there are more elk on the landscape as a direct result of those improvements. It does seem a bit like a broken record, how many different threads have you started on pretty much the exact same topic? The solution is not near as simple as you make it sound. Look at CO, MT and WY. These are the states with by far the most elk. All 3 have robust over the counter elk tags...- npaden
