I started elk hunting in 2010. I didn’t kill my first elk until a cow elk in 2015 with a rifle.
I got my first bull in 2017 with a rifle.
After that I have harvested another cow and 2 more bulls with a rifle. I did not harvest my first six point with a rifle til 2023.
I have been skunked...
Thank you for this thread it is so good to read pure hunting joy and the crazy variety of adventures that are possible to be had on this amazing planet.
I won’t pay for cosmetic stuff for my kids. Plus it might keep them from dating in high school which will save them even more time, money, and drama. I d go on the elk hunt. And then offer to pay for it after she turns 18.
Stay away from Ram Avaition I went with them last year and they put three camps within 4 miles of our camp. They are not worth the money and definitely are inflating their success rates on their website.
Poor guy… now if anyone ever googles him they are going to see his college work and an obscure link to a hunting forum on thread with nothing to do about hunting lol.
As a 7 mm mag fan (I have two rem and a whty) I zero at 100 and shoot steel out to 400 yards with factory ammo. My max range is 400 yard but most of my elk have been between 100 and 350 yards. I don’t like shooting past 400 it seems like a lot can happen then especially with the weather and wind...
I love my 7 rem mags I have a REM 700 and a weatherby vanguard with leupold scopes and Talley rings. I don’t think I ll be moving away from that combo. It is just a solid performing rifle.
