    Sell or Send back first?

I’m a big fan of Remington 700’s, but would lean hard toward 700 footprint based “clone” or not quite clone over a 700 these days as the price and availability has changed. Tikka and Howa are great options that might actually be better if you don’t plan to do any future work on the rifle. 280AI...

    Sell or Send back first?

PB Blaster, Kroil, trans fluid mixed with paint thinner. Any of those three will do some surprising things. Heat next. Savage won’t replace the rifle, but they might replace the break for a low fee. Sounds like you need a left handed rifle. Sell, and I buy something worth having.

Guidance on choosing a new barrel or new rifle

I would lean pretty hard toward a custom stainless barrel in a No 5 contour or heavier, and have it chambered and fitted by a gunsmith with a good reputation for making accurate rifles. I prefer Krieger, but all the big name custom barrel makers make good barrels. Not only should that be cheaper...

Help trying to match a powder from the 1960s

Don’t bother trying to duplicate the load. Just work up a load of H4350 as if you didn’t know anything about the rifle and be happy with it.

    Well that sucks.

New Mexico Privatization. Nuthin like it

My understanding is that they definitely give some unit wide tags to ranches that no one is actually going to hunt, and that a lot of the big ranches that we would like to hunt, choose to go with ranch only instead of unit wide, but I do like the fact that unit wide tags make the ranch open to...

    Trouble Chambering Rounds/Brass 6.5 PRC

with factory rifles stiff chambering of reloads is usually seating depth or lack of shoulder bump. Screw your sizing die in a little deeper. With customer chambers sometimes the web is fat, depending on brand of brass, and that can cause some minor problems, but usually not to the degree you’re...

You do realize that if residents could apply for all species your draw odds would be even worse right?

    2024 Utah Draw Results

There are general tags that can be drawn with under 3 pts. It’s your fault if you aim higher than that. Limited entry odds in UT are very long. Many people will never draw a limited entry tag for males. That said UT actually has pretty decent opportunity. Your general elk tag is OTC. You can...

    2024 Nevada Draw Results

I wouldn’t suggest that someone who has the extra money should avoid NV in favor of scratch off tickets. I’m simply an advocate for going in eyes wide open at what the odds are of you never drawing a tag there. It’s dishonest to suggest to someone that they’ll get lucky eventually. For...

Yeah, but I’m not driving through CO to shoot a cow elk in NV.

    2024 Nevada Draw Results

The math does not suggest that your second paragraph is accurate for non-residents. Outside of deer and antelope, even the easiest tags to draw in the state are very low odds for non-residents. 2% each for two sheep, a goat, and a bull elk for twenty years give you a 19% chance of never...

New Mexico Privatization. Nuthin like it

Other states should have more private elk tags. If e-plus went away, a significant portion of those tags would just evaporate into thin air, and some private land would not longer be huntable by people who draw tags in the public draw. Your neighbor to the west doesn’t issue private land elk...

You’re a lucky man I suppose. Although I doubt all 11 tags have been 1% draw odds.
