I got a quick response from FWP this morning. It shows I must have been asleep when the quotas for Units 622 and 680 were announced. Shame on me.
It is concerning that the sheep numbers in those two herds and 482 are down. Those have been the bright spot in an otherwise dim outlook for Montana...
I just emailed the Department with a question as to why the draw summaries show 10 ram tags drawn in Unit 680 and 5 in Unit 622, when the regs called for 25 and 10, respectively.
Maybe I missed something at the Commission level. Or am I reading the draw summaries incorrectly?

I'm in favor or giving wildlife and conservation values equal footing under the "multiple use" mandates. I am also in favor of the market-based ideas of conservation leasing and compensatory mitigation leasing. Given that, I'm in favor of this rule, and I'm willing to see even stronger language...
Yup.
And know that whoever you vote for, that's not a license to be an idiot on hunting, access, conservation, and 2A. If they are out in the weeds on topics such as those, and you let them know you voted for them, your communication with them is likely way more effective messaging than a...
This is so cool. Having all these great groups working on public access makes a big difference. Getting full and permanent funding of LWCF in 2020 has ramped up the public access game, where the agencies are seeking new properties to acquire from willing sellers way more proactively than they...
This thread is veering far away from the original post. And, it's mostly political rather than informative.
I'll lock it now and save us all the hassle.
Every year Leupold does a sweepstakes called "Project Hunt." They pick two different people who have compelling stories. Leupold sends a camera crew with them to document the story and helps them with telling the story. That, along with a lot of gear, is what the winner receives.
This year...
So sorry to hear this. You are an amazing person, Dave. I pray that you find comfort and peace during this difficult time.
As you've been the amazing husband and caregiver, you have been an example and inspiration.
A few days in DC last month reminded me of how much I hate the political football that gets played with public land management. The proposed BLM rule that would give conservation equal standing to other uses under the "Multiple Use" mandates is the subject of this week's episode.
Since nobody...
Alright, we're about six weeks into filming our nine-week program at MTN TOUGH, where they are using me as the poor talent to build a course for hunters over 50 years old who might have a few impairments that are keeping them from staying in better shape.
I went there in December, just to check...
I'm sorry to read of this. Your burden is heavy, unimaginable to those of us not in your shoes. I hope your family, friends, and even kind thoughts and words from strangers will bring peace and comfort to whatever degree comfort is possible under this difficult situation.
My condolences to you...
If you want to hear an interesting story of how RMEF got started, here's an hour and a half conversation with Charlie Decker. What a treat.
You can find it wherever you get your podcasts.
Or you can listen to it at this link -...
Anything I would have as a goal would be very "arbitrary" and likely change about once a week. My last goal, one that has persisted for over 40 years, will be met this August when I get to sit atop the MacKenzie Mountains and try to drink in what true "wildness" really is. If I get a sheep or...
Thanks to all of you. Thanks to the many great people at RMEF who donate so much of their time, talent, and money to a vital cause. Thanks to so many who provided their support, encouragement, and wise counsel. We cannot thank you enough.
It is rare that I am at a loss for words. I was the...
